Research Opportunities

This page is still in process of gathering bibliographies. Here's what we currently have:

Three research articles from the American Psychological Association involving the emotional and mental effects of dealing with stress related to anti-LGBT marriage legislature (the articles discuss positive ways of coping):

  • Bibliography on Reconciling Sexual, Religious, and Social Conflicts has info on if changing sexual orientation is possible, variety of ways to look at being religious/spiritual and LGBT, the question of "nature vs. nurture," parents of LGBT children, LGBT parents, heterosexually married homosexuals/bisexuals, racial-ethnic conflicts, "coming out," and identity development (updated 10/08)
  • Bibliography from the American Psychological Association's Division 44 Task Force on LGBT Aging (updated 11/08)
  • LGBTQ Movies: A list of films that explore and illustrate important themes about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals, their lives, and their relationships.

If you have any books, movies, or other resources you would like to recommend to post on the site, contact Lee Beckstead at leebeckst@yahoo.com. If you have any concerns about any of these books, movies, websites, and references, let Lee know.

Answers to Your Questions for a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality

The Human Rights Campaign has an excellent booklet on the benefits, risks, how to, and when to "come out."

Soulforce has a solid list of booklets and books about homosexuality, religion, science, & politics. For example, see What the Science Says - And Doesn't Say - About Homosexuality by Jeff Lutes, MS, LPC, with a Forward by Jack Drescher, MD.

Locally, Pride Counseling also lists some important resources.
